Duopoly announces the launch of the award-winning comedy animation series Odd Job Jack on Hulu.com.

Press Release from Duopoly

JANUARY 11, 2010(New York) – Duopoly announces the launch of the award-winning comedy animation series Odd Job Jack on Hulu.com.  The hit half-hour television series produced for The Comedy Network in Canada, garnered a large following through both traditional TV and its highly interactive site www.oddjobjack.com where fans play games and download animation elements in a ‘creative commons’ approach to digital assets.

Odd Job Jack chronicles the on-the-job misadventures of the perpetually unemployed Jack Ryder, a 25-year old sociology grad whose higher learning has gotten him nowhere in the world of employment, but everywhere in the world of debt. In each original episode, Jack, voiced by Don McKellar (Slings and Arrows, The Drowsy Chaperone, The Red Violin) returns to Odd Jobs Unlimited and is assigned a new position. From corpse in a terrorist drill, to royal time-keeper, to king crab fisherman, there is simply no job too odd for this working-class stiff.  Featuring stand-out guest performances from Jason Alexander, John Goodman, Sandra Oh, James Woods, Carrie Fisher, David Cross, Leslie Nielsen, Fred Willard, Christian Slater, Jerry Stiller and many more as an eclectic group of co-workers, employers, and former loves, the show is irreverent, hilarious, and sadly, timeless.

“There’s a vast library of great Canadian comedy that -- because of Canada’s less conservative broadcast restrictions with regards to language and content -- hasn’t made it to US television. Distribution on Hulu provides series’ like Odd Job Jack direct access, to a huge, untapped audience in the US,” commented Catherine Tait, President of Duopoly.

Alongside each episode of Odd Job Jack is the show’s corresponding “sit.com” – an interactive website based on Jack’s job of the week. Viewers are prompted throughout each broadcast to log on to www.oddjobjack.com and play show-related games and download content. With video recaps of each episode, in-depth character information and various downloads, the website has over 10 million game-plays. Odd Job Jack also undertook a groundbreaking "open content" initiative by distributing "copy friendly" design resources online which allows fans to freely download every character, prop, and background to edit, animate and use as they wish.  Smiley Guy Studios developed a media-browser application, ‘FreeJack’, where they promoted and distributed (‘seeded’) an episode's resources and accompanying tutorials and other support material for viewers to browse and download via BitTorrent.

Odd Job Jack (52 x 30’) was created by Smiley Guy Studios (www.smileyguy.com), an award-winning production company that specializes in animation, design, writing, and multi-media.  The series has been nominated for multiple Best Comedy Program Geminis, and has won the 2007 Gemini Award for Best Cross Platform Program, the 2008 CFTPA Indie Award for Best Convergent Program, 2008 Canada New Media Award for Excellence in Cross Platform and was named the Best Interactive Program at Banff Awards in 2008.

Odd Job Jack can also be seen in markets around the world including The Comedy Network and MTV in Canada, Cartoon Network Latin America, MTV Asia and Paramount Comedy Italy, amongst others.

Duopoly is an independent film, television and web content company.  Recent Duopoly productions include comedy series Pure Pwnage for Canada’s Showcase which also recently launched on ABC2 in Australia, in addition to a slate of original web properties including The World of Bruce McCall, a series of animated shorts based on the illustrations of the acclaimed artist, and the original comedy web series Papillon for BITE TV in Canada and Babelgum in the US.
