CNBC.com reports that Disney Interactive has cut between 30-50% of its 700 employee staff. The move is part of the company's ongoing restructuring, which includes a move away from console games and into the social media gaming arena. Last July, Disney paid $763 million for online casual gaming firm Playdom. The lay offs follow Disney's closing of its Propaganda Games unit, which made TRON: EVOLUTION. That was the same studio that was working on the MMO game, PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: ARMADA OF THE DAMNED, before Disney abruptly pulled the plug after investing millions in the project. Ironically, Disney had a big success in the console arena over the holidays with the Wii-exclusive, EPIC MICKEY, which sold 1.3 million copies in December.
