Press release from the Savannah College of Art and Design:

SAVANNAH, Georgia – Inspire 2012, hosted by the Savannah College of Art and Design, will unite the SCAD community with industry-leading professionals in the motion graphics and visual effects industries April 12-13 at the SCAD Museum of Art. By examining the contemporary media landscape and forecasting industry developments, the annual conference prepares SCAD students for their future careers as premier artists, designers and media specialists.

Now in its fifth year, the conference will offer motion media design events that explore creative visualization, emerging media applications, creative collaboration, and motion media and the fine arts. This year, Inspire welcomes visual effects specialists to Savannah as well. Visual effects presenters will discuss simulations and curve modeling, stereoscopic 3-D and its impact on visual effects production, the ever-evolving role of the visual effects supervisor, and more.

“Today’s motion media designers and visual effects artists are being called on to solve an expanding array of creative problems,” says John Colette, SCAD chair of motion media design. “Events, such as Inspire, offer the opportunity for our young artists and designers to hear from the leaders of our industry, to consider the cutting-edge of creative practice and future developments amongst which their own careers will flourish.”

The Inspire conference will offer attendees the opportunity to hear presentations from industry professionals such as Richard Edlund, multiple Academy Award-winning visual effects supervisor. Edlund established his reputation by winning four Oscars for visual effects in "Star Wars - The Empire Strikes Back," "Raiders of the Lost Ark" and "Star Wars - Return of the Jedi," and a nomination for "Poltergeist." In addition, Jerry Tessendorf, an Academy Award winner for Scientific Achievement and an educator, will be presenting.

Other notable speakers include Joan Raspo, Director, On-Air Creative and Branding, VH1/MTVN; Lauren Hartstone, Emmy nominated director and designer; Justin Leibow, creative director at Superfad and graphic designer; Dennis H. Miller, founder and artistic director of the Visual Music Marathon; Jesse Seppi, co-founder of Tronic; Jakob Trollbäck, founder of award-winning company Trollbäck + Company; and Alessandro Imperato, professor of motion media design at SCAD Atlanta.

Additionally, Inspire is partnering with CoMotion for the second time this year. CoMotion is a free, student symposium featuring motion graphics industry professionals and guest speakers. Students can participate and demonstrate their talents through portfolio reviews, a student showcase, and a contest while gaining new insight from panel presentations. The event allows students to demonstrate their status as creative professionals. The symposium will be held at the SCAD Museum of Art on April 14.
