Directed by Sybil DelGaudio, INDEPENDENT SPIRITS looks at the careers of Academy Award-winning animators John and Faith Hubley, at their contributions to the development of animation as an art form and at their effort to remain independent in a field that is largely commercial. The film also examines John's role in the 1941 Disney Studio strike and chronicles Faith's struggle as an independent filmmaker after the loss of her husband and up until her own death. To accompany the documentary, ITVS and PBS have launched comprehensive companion Website. It includes an interactive timeline of John and Faith Hubley's careers, a complete filmography, bios of the Hubley's and a look at some of the pioneering females in animation throughout history. Plus links, resources and a discussion forum. Visit the Website at www.pbs.org/independentspirits.
