Inaugural San Francisco Comics Fest Kicks off Sunday, May 3

Week-long series of events presented by the California College of the Arts, the Cartoon Art Museum, Academy of Art University and the San Francisco Public Library runs Sunday, May 3 through Saturday, May 10.

San Francisco, CA -- The San Francisco Comics Fest announced the official calendar of events for its inaugural celebration, organized by members of the Bay Area comics community.  The weeklong programming will kick off Sunday, May 3, 2015 following Free Comic Book Day.  Satellite events will be held throughout the city and conclude on Saturday, May 10, 2015.

“From California College of the Arts, the Cartoon Art Museum, Academy of Art University, San Francisco Public Library, Center for Sex and Culture, Bay Area retailers, Last Gasp, and various hosts around the city, we’ve got events for every age and interest.  It’s going to be an exciting week for comics in San Francisco,” remarked Committee Organizer Matt Silady, Chair of MFA in Comics Program at California College of the Arts.

San Francisco Comics Fest is a celebration of comics culture - past, present and future - with festival events highlighting four core aspects of the vibrant community:

  • Rich history of artistic rebellion and comics innovation
  • Unique intersection of cultural influences shared among creators
  • Commitment to comics education
  • Responsibility to shape the future of comics through technology in a positive, equitable way
