Icon Animation Joins with Panini to Market Lola & Virginia

Icon Animation, Spain's leading production and distribution company specialising in youth programming, has scored a multi-territory deal with leading collectible stickers and trading card company Panini for its popular girl-skewed animated show LOLA & VIRGINIA. Panini will launch a series of products across Spain, Portugal, Italy and Brazil, including a sticker stack book, story albums, and puzzle and coloring books. The roll out will begin in Italy, where the series airs on the Disney Channel.

LOLA & VIRGINIA has sold worldwide and is supported by a licensing and merchandising strategy that includes a deal for Spain & Portugal with Comercial Nim. Products include school sets, stationery, backpacks and pencil cases, with further product lines planned.

Grupo Edebe has already launched ten manga-style comic books in Spain and leading mobile content producer Alvento is distributing ring tones, games, images, screen savers and a WAP Portal for the popular brand.

Icon Animation is also producing online games for the LOLA & VIRGINIA website (www.lolavirginia.com), which is available in Spanish, English and Catalan and is also being translated into Italian and Portugese.

The witty animated series aimed at 6- to twelve-year-olds premiered in the U.S. last June and on Nickelodeon Latin America last July. It is set to launch on France 3 and RTVE this year, following other public broadcasters TV3, ETB and RTP.

The series has also been picked up by Nickelodeon in France and Asia, Disney Channel in Spain and in Italy, Canal Panda in Portugal, The Children Channel (Israel) and RCTV Venezuela. Icon Animation holds all distribution rights worldwide except for France, French-speaking Switzerland, Benelux, the U.K., Ireland, Iceland, Australia and New Zealand, which are held by Millimages.

Free TV channel SBT picked up the series in Brazil, alongside a licensing and merchandising deal in the region with agent Creative Licensing. In Romania, Lola & Virginia has been picked up by Kanal D with MUZ TV acquiring free TV rights for Russia. Ireland's TG4 has taken the show in a deal with Millimages, which shares distribution with Icon Animation.

The series is a co-production between Icon Animation, Millimages, France 3, TV Catalunya and ETB, based on the original concept created by Myriam Ballesteros, founding partner of Icon Animation with Sergi Reitg.
