Ice Age Director To Helm Hugo Cabret

Chris Wedge will direct Brian Selznick's magical children's novel THE INVENTION OF HUGO CABRET, per VARIETY.

Writer John Logan (THE AVIATOR) will write the live-action film for Graham King's GK Films, Johnny Depp's Infinitum Nihil and Warner Bros. King and Nihil's Christi Dembrowski will produce the No. 1 NEW YORK TIMES 2007 bestseller. GK Films and Warner Bros. acquired the screen rights that same year.

The plot centers on an orphaned boy who secretly lives in the walls of a busy Paris train station and looks after the clocks. He gets drawn into a mysterious adventure when he attempts to repair a mechanical man.

Studio is looking toward a fall start date.

King started GK Films with partner Tim Headington in 2007 after producing Martin Scorsese's THE DEPARTED. Through his company, King recently completed filming THE YOUNG VICTORIA on location in the U.K.

Infinitum Nihil established a production deal with King in 2004 and is working on several projects with him, including SHANTARAM and DARK SHADOWS.

Hedge has a long, continuing relationship with ICE AGE producers BLUE SKY and 20th CENTURY FOX. He directed the animated ROBOTS for Fox and also executive produced DR. SEUSS' HORTON HEARS A WHO!.

Logan has also written GLADIATOR and SWEENEY TODD: THE DEMON BARBER OF FLEET STREET, and is working on the script for an animated feature for King and Gore Verbinski.
