House of Moves Launches New MoCap Studio

House of Moves, a division of Vicon Motion Systems, is unveiling its top-of-the-line new facility, with stages and capabilities equipped to provide end-to-end motion capture services for clients in feature film, television, commercial, game development and interactive markets.

The main capture stage at the new 12,000-square-foot Los Angeles-based motion capture studio now boasts an array of 64 Vicon MX40 cameras for some of the industrys most precise performance capture, including the industrys first simultaneous facial and full-body capture service. A showplace for current and future Vicon technology, including Vicon iQ and the companys own Diva software, House of Moves also offers clients early access to key technology advancements for the entire motion capture pipeline.

House of Moves has been boosting its caché of expertise, equipment and personnel since June, when it was acquired by Vicon. The company has recently been involved in a range of high-profile feature film and game projects, including THE POLAR EXPRESS, SPIDER-MAN 2, CATWOMAN and the GOLDENEYE: ROGUE AGENT shooter game and THE LORD OF THE RINGS: THE BATTLE FOR MIDDLE-EARTH realtime strategy game for Electronic Arts.

As a division of the leading motion capture developer, Vicon, we now enjoy incredible access to its resources and technology, said House of Moves ceo Tom Tolles. This has allowed us to equip ourselves to really shape the future of real-world motion capture, with our customers as direct beneficiaries. Having seen motion capture advancing by leaps and bounds this year with such projects as THE POLAR EXPRESS, VAN HELSING, I, ROBOT and SKY CAPTAIN AND THE WORLD OF TOMORROW, its clear that motion capture is going new places in film. So when customers come in with an out-there concept, when they want to capture hero characters, not just background filler or want to record motion capture in tandem with first-unit photography on set, theyll find House of Moves to be the right partner for the job.

The new House of Moves offers a motion-capture volume sized up to 90x45 feet. Sixty-four Vicon cameras offer ultra-high resolution motion capture with four million pixels and on-board processing. House of Moves new Golden Volume is designed for precision capture of simultaneous facial and full-body performance animation, and has already been used in production for several upcoming game and feature film titles. Captured information is readied for the 3D pipeline using Vicon iQ, Vicons automated, kinematics-based data processing application, and House of Moves Diva software. In many cases, House of Moves motion capture is delivered to customers ready to plug directly into animation production pipelines or game engines.
