Alex Zamm has been brought on to help William Robertson rewrite the direct-to-video sequel to Disney’s INSPECTOR GADGET. Most likely Zamm will helm the $10 million redux with Disney-based Fountain Prods.’ Charles Hirschhorn and Peter Green developing the project. Disney senior VP Gregg Hoffman is overseeing the film for the studio. Casting has not begun, but with such a slim budget the likeliness that the stars of the original like Matthew Broderick will not return. The original script written by Ron Anderson, Jordan Kerner and Roger Birnbaum featured a power struggle between Gadget and G-2, a female version of Gadget, to impress the police department by stopping the villainous Claw from using a time-freeze laser to steal from the Federal Reserve. In the past, Zamm directed the Disney telefilms MY DATE WITH THE PRESIDENT’S DAUGHTER and THE POOCH AND THE PAUPER. Directed by David Kellogg, the first GADGET grossed US$97.4 million in U.S. theatres and nearly $6.5 million in video sales.
