On Nov. 3, the National Film Board of Canada released a compilation of auteur animation on Blu-ray and DVD, titled Animation Express. The DVD offers 26 shorts and the Blu-ray offers 39. Animation Express is a compilation of recent auteur animation from the National Film Board of Canada, the world’s leading public producer of animated films. Its 2009 release coincides with the NFB’s 70th anniversary. The collection features 26 films from both established and emerging filmmakers, includes multi-award winners such as Sleeping Betty and Madame Tutli-Putli. A special Blu-ray edition offers 13 extra titles, including two Oscar winners – Torill Kove’s The Danish Poet and Chris Landreth’s Ryan.

Founded by Norman McLaren, the NFB animation program is recognized for its innovation and artistry, and has won thousands of international awards, including seven Oscars, 32 Oscar nominations and top honours at the Cannes Film Festival.
