Hollow Man Debuts Strong At IBO, What Lies & X-Men Hold On

With HOLLOW MAN claiming strong debuts in Germany and Italy, WHAT LIES BENEATH and X-MEN hold on tight to other tops spots around the world. In first place, HOLLOW MAN scored big in its German premiere with a gross of US$3.78 million. SCARY MOVIE came in right behind with a gross of $3.47 million, raising its German cume to $8.84 million. WHAT LIES BENEATH sunk to third with a gross of $1.37 million, lifting its German cume to $7.11 million. In seventh, FINAL DESTINATION piled up $487,846, bringing its German cume to $6.66 million. THE ROAD TO EL DORADO led to 9th place in Germany, with a gross of $462,617 thereby advancing its cume to $1.21 million. Rounding out the top ten, THE LITTLE VAMPIRE flew in with a ticket take of $357,559, climbing its German cume to $1.86 million. In Italy, HOLLOW landed $2.86 million in its first place debut. THE PERFECT STORM sailed into fourth, grossing $762,449 thus increasing its Italian cume to $4.66 million. U-571 sunk to fifth with a gross of $743,494, pushing its Italian cume to $1.75 million. In eighth, THE CELL captured $371,427, elevating its Italian cume to $3.62 million. The Italian premiere of THE ROAD TO EL DORADO road in at #9, with a gross of $357,895. Elsewhere, WHAT LIES debuted in first place in South Africa, bringing in $227,146. Falling to third, X-MEN extended its $803,414 cume by $103,636. In fifth, URBAN LEGENDS: FINAL CUT grabbed $49,364, lifting its South African cume to $143,769. HOLLOW MAN materialized in sixth place, grossing $40,658 thereby bringing its South African cume to $607,090. In seventh, THE FLINTSTONES VIVA ROCK VEGAS dropped 51% to gross $32,931, raising its 3-week South African cume to $273,810. In ninth, NUTTY PROFESSOR II: THE KLUMPS added $22,936 to its $297,616 South African cume. Finishing out the South African top ten, U-571 sunk another $19,877 into its cume worth $465,841. In Mexico, WHAT LIES took the top spot for the third straight week, grossing $1.24 million and bringing its cume to $5.31 million. U-571's premiere floated into third with a ticket take of $954,162. HOLLOW MAN dropped 40% to finish in fourth with a gross of $627,472 thereby increasing its Mexican cume to $4.73 million. The debut of FREQUENCY placed sixth, grossing only $338,794. In ninth, NUTTY II added $144,232 to its $2.82 million Mexican cume.
