Hewlett Departs Carlton For Tiger Aspect

U.K. independent Tiger Aspect Productions has appointed multi-award winning producer Steve Hewlett as its new non-executive director. Hewlett will work closely with the heads of departments to develop programming, broaden broadcasters relations and help expand the companys international opportunities and ambitions.

Hewlett has an established track record in news and current affairs programming, but is especially known for his work across all genres through his positions as md of Carlton Productions since 2001, after serving as director of programs for Carlton Television. Hewlett was responsible for the production and business strategy of all drama, factual, entertainment, comedy and childrens output from Carlton TV Productions, Planet 24 and Action Time. He initiated and maintained the companys international joint ventures and created a stand-alone profitable production business.

Before joining Carlton, Hewlett was head of factual programs at Channel 4 with responsibility for documentary, feature, factual entertainment, history, lifestyle and arts programming. From 1995 to 1997, he was editor of PANORAMA, winning numerous BAFTA, RTS, Broadcasting Press Guild and international awards for programs. As editor of INSIDE STORY for the BBC, from 1992 to 1994, he won a string of awards for his work which included THE MAZE THE ENEMY WITHIN and REMEMBER BLOODY SUNDAY.

Hewlett has exec produced a number of flagship series and specials. He started in television as a researcher on Nationwide before going on to produce series for Channel 4 including THE FRIDAY ALTERNATIVE and DIVERSE REPORTS.

Steve is a heavyweight production-based TV executive who is a perfect fit for Tiger Aspect, said Peter Bennett-Jones, chairman of Tiger Aspect.
