HBO Pulls Stakes on Carnivale

Following rumors of the shows demise, HBO officially cancelled its supernatural sideshow drama, CARNIVALE. Sagging ratings and the departure of creator/exec producer Daniel Knauf to produce a new comedy series on Showtime were the top factors in the cable nets decision.

"We have decided not to renew CARNIVALE," said Carolyn Strauss, president of entertainment at HBO. "We feel the two seasons we had on the air told the story very well and we are proud of what everyone associated with the show has accomplished."

Production house A52 had won an Emmy for its work on the shows impressive title sequence and Encore had provided the effects for the Lynchian series.

The cult fan base for the show was strong and, upon the news of the shows cancellation, fansite CarnyCon (www.mooncross.net/carnivale/midway.html) quickly struck up a telegram campaign to save the Dust Bowl-set series. But if fan attempts to save STAR TREK: ENTERPRISE are any example of fan campaign success than fans of CARNIVALE will probably never know what the outcoming of Season 2s cliffhanger would have been.
