Hayek & Tamex Tap Lopez to Helm Time Travel Film

Chilean filmmaker Nicolas Lopez will write and direct an untitled comedy thriller about a young woman who is sent to the past to prevent World War III, under Salma Hayek and partner Jose Tamez's new MGM-based production shingle Ventanazul, reports VARIETY.

Ventanazul is scouting hot young talent from Mexico, Chile and the U.S. for this and its other first few projects.

The comedic/fantasy BONES FAMILY will be co-written/directed by brothers Gabriel and Rodolfo Rivapalacio, creators of UNA PELICULA DE HUEVOS, the second-highest-grossing movie of all time in Mexico, after THE CRIME OF FATHER AMARO. The film will depict a father who tries to unite his dysfunctional family by taking them on a trip to Las Vegas.

Rodrigo Garcia (NINE LIVES) will helm the coming-of-age project DIEGO ASCENDING, a remake of Israeli pic BONJOUR MONSIEUR SHLOMI. Ligiah Villalobos is writing the script about a teen torn between developing his potential in math or taking care of a Latino family. Hayek and Tamez will produce with Mark Teitelbaum and Sergio Aguero.

Actor/comedian George Lopez is in talks to co-write, produce and star in one of the projects.
