In trying to stir the VFX industry to think more about innovation, Dr. Haseltine described three blind spots: expectation, desire and focus. Put value in what you don't expect, was emphasized.

Meanwhile, he suggested that future of CG technology lies in quantum computing for more natural looks, and neuro-morphic computing to simulate artificial humans more in line with the way the brain works to get around the Uncanny Valley.

He also suggested that the theatrical experience will change as a result of late binding, local customization and live feeds. In other words, a set of revolving circumstances to emphasize local flavor and immediacy.

Dr. Haseltine flat out said 3-D would fail unless they do away with flat movie screens and institute a more open and immersive experience. This would justify the stereoscopic mode of storytelling.

Finally, he suggested that the next innovation would come from the likes of social networking and YouTube rather than successfully entrenched arenas -- that's just human nature.
