Harry Potter Hangs On To Number One

Although its weekend take of $24.1M represents a 58% drop from last weekend, HARRY POTTER AND THE SORCERERS STONE, with visual effects by Sony Pictures Imageworks and Rhythm & Hues, remained number one for the third week in a row, and crossed the $200M mark after 15 days. HARRY has earned $220.1M after three weeks of release. The rescue drama BEHIND ENEMY LINES, with visual effects by Reality Check Studios and OCS/Freeze Frame/Pixel Magic, came in a strong second, earning $19.2M in its debut. Action thriller SPY GAME, with visual effects by Cinesite and others, stayed in third for its second week of release, bringing in $11.2M for a total of $46.9M. Another member of the $200M club is MONSTERS, INC., which hit the $200M milestone on its 30th day of release, reaching that mark faster than any other animated film, overtaking THE LION KING and SHREK, which both hit $200M after 33 days. MONSTERS scared up a weekend take of $9.4M for a cume of $204.3M and fourth place. SHALLOW HAL, with visual effects by Alterian Studios and Artist's Asylum Inc., took in $4.7M over the weekend for $61.2M to date and sixth place. Despite its lackluster debut, OUT COLD, with visual effects by Gajdecki Visual Effects (GVFX), managed to stay in the top ten with $2.9M for the weekend and $10.5M total for seventh place. Falling out of the top ten to land in twelfth place was the Jet Li actioner THE ONE, with visual effects by Digital Filmworks, ComputerCafe and Tippett Studio, earning $800,000 for a cume of $43.1M.
