Following it's record breaking midnight showing, Warner Bros.' HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS - PART 2 goes on to shatter multiple records over its opening weekend of July 15-17, 2011. The final POTTER adventure took in $168.6 million over the three days, making it the highest grossing opening weekend of all time. The previous record holder was THE DARK KNIGHT. The film also marked the biggest single day earnings of $92.1 million and the worldwide opening record of $475.6 million.

Double Negative, Framestore, Moving Picture Company (MPC), Baseblack, Cinesite, Gener8 3D, Gradient Effects, Lola Visual Effects, Mova, Peanut FX, Prime Focus Film, Rising Sun Pictures, The Base Studio, Tippett Studio, Union Visual Effects, The Visual Effects Company and i.e. Effects provide the vfx for HARRY POTTER.

Last week's #1, TRANSFORMERS: DARK OF THE MOON, slipped to second with $21.3 million. With vfx from Industrial Light & Magic (ILM), Digital Domain, Atomic Fiction, Kerner Optical, Method Studios, Mova, Prana Studios and Prime Focus, the Carmageddon feature from DreamWorks and Paramount has a cume of $302.8 million.

New Line's HORRIBLE BOSSES fired off another $17.6 million in third, raising its cume to $60 million.

Placing fourth, Sony's ZOOKEEPER locked up an additional $12.3 million. With vfx from Sony Pictures Imageworks (SPI), Amalgamated Dynamics, Creative Initiative Make-Up & FX Studio, Framework Studio, Pixel Liberation Front and Pixomondo, the Kevin James comedy has earned $42.4 million to date.

Disney*Pixar's CARS 2 skidded into fifth with $8.34 million. The animated spy spoof has made $165.3 million so far.

Disney's hand-drawn WINNIE THE POOH debuted in sixth with the modest earnings of $8 million.

Sony's BAD TEACHER held class in seventh, bringing in $5.2 million to its $88.5 million cume.

Universal's LARRY CROWNE placed eighth, adding $2.57 million to its $31.6 million cume.

Paramount's SUPER 8 wounded up in ninth with $1.93 million. The alien/coming of age tale has total box office receipts of $122.2 million.

Sony Pictures Classics' MIDNIGHT IN PARIS moved back into the top ten, earning another $1.89 million. With its cume now at $41.8 million, the fantasy comedy is Woody Allen's highest grossing film of his career.
