Hannibal Takes Third Helping At The US Box Office

With new competition very weak, HANNIBAL took a third helping at the U.S. box office, grossing another US$15.77 million. The hog-wild thriller, with primary visual effects by Mill Film, has gobbled up $128.5 million to date. 3000 MILES TO GRACELAND made its opening nod in third. The high-octane crime caper, with primary visual effects by Rainmaker Digital Pictures, snatched $7.16 million. After early reports had it placing third, Disney's RECESS: SCHOOL'S OUT actually finished forth, rescuing an additional $6.93 million. The saving summer vacation adventure has accumulated $22.7 million. Floating in fifth, CROUCHING TIGER, HIDDEN DRAGON kicked in $6.59 million. The kung fu fantasy, with primary visual effects by Blue Sky Studios, CFC/MVFX and Manex Visual Effects, has rescued $81.94 million thus far. Stalling in seventh, TRAFFIC smuggled in another $5.14 million. The drug war drama, with primary visual effects by Cinesite, has smoked up $86.23 million so far. Rounding out the top ten, CAST AWAY scrounged another $3.11 million. The golden winged mega-hit, with primary visual effects by Sony Pictures Imageworks, has drummed up $220.9 million. Debuting just shy of the top ten, MONKEYBONE could only fetch $2.69 million. The film was produced by 20th Century Fox and director Henry Selick's Twitching Images Studios, with visual effects handled by Full Scale Effects Inc., Howard Granite Films and M5 Industries. In thirteenth, O BROTHER, WHERE ART THOU? cooked up another $2.27 million. The ODYSSEY adventure, with primary visual effects by Digital Domain and Cinesite, has captured $28.24 million. At #17, SNATCH scored $885,247. The crime comedy, with visual effects by Digital Film @ The Moving Picture Company, has pilfered $28.72 million to date. Holding tight to 18th place, THIRTEEN DAYS rocketed in an additional $669,181. The Cuban missile crisis movie, with primary visual effects by Cinesite and Visual Concept Entertainment, has drummed up $33.09 million. Finishing off the top twenty, THE EMPEROR'S NEW GROOVE transformed tickets to $536,522. The llama laugher has collected $85.68 million. Other animated and special effects laden films finishing in the top fifty were: 102 DALMATIANS at #25, with a gross of $338,552 and a cume of $65.41 million; UNBREAKABLE at #30, with a gross of $260,786 and a cume of $93.85 million; RUGRATS IN PARIS at #35, with a gross of $205,169 and a cume of $75.91 million; CYBERWORLD 3D at #39, with a gross of $157,342 and a cume of $6.16 million; VERTICAL LIMIT at #40, with a gross of $147,931 and a cume of $68.33 million; ALMOST FAMOUS at #44, with a gross of $91,704 and a cume of $32.25 million; LEFT BEHIND at #46, with a gross of $79,686 and a cume of $3.81 million; and HOW THE GRINCH STOLE CHRISTMAS at #50, with a gross of $59,325 and a cume of $260 million.
