Hannibal Takes A Slice Of The International Box Office

With it already grossing out audiences in the States, HANNIBAL has begun to take a slice out of the international box office. In Italy, the blood-thirsty thriller claimed the top spot with a gross of $5.65 million. In fifth, CAST AWAY floated an additional $679,996, raising its Italian cume to $12.78 million. CROUCHING TIGER, HIDDEN DRAGON descended into sixth with a ticket-take of $529,624, lifting its Italian total to $1.14 million. In eighth, 102 DALMATIANS barked up another $284,555, bringing its Italian cume to $4.48 million. In Canada, HANNIBAL hooked $4.02 million in its first place debut. Crashing into fourth, TRAFFIC seized $521,144, lifting its Canadian cume to $6.22 million. CAST AWAY drifted into fifth, with a gross of $419,622, advancing its Canadian total to $14.25 million. SNATCH grabbed the sixth slot, grossing $394,538, thus growing its Canadian cume to $3.07 million. At #7, CROUCHING TIGER rescued $378,583, floating its Canadian cume to $5.61 million. HANNIBAL did poorly in its debut in Australia only inching its way into the bottom of the top ten with a gross of $250,847. CAST AWAY reclaimed the crown Down Under with a ticket-take of $1.12 million, raising its cume to $9.63 million. In fourth, CROUCHING TIGER nabbed another $503,867, levitating its Australian cume to $3.08 million. At #7, BEDAZZLED seduced an additional $425,081, blooming its Australian total to $2.24 million. At #8, THE LEGEND OF BAGGER VANCE made a lackluster Australian premiere taking home only $271,841. In its fifth-week in Germany, CAST AWAY fought off 102 DALMATIANS to retain the top spot, grossing $3.11 million, thereby lifting its cume to $24.57 million. The 101 DALMATIANS sequel settled for second and a German ticket-take of $3.1 million. VERTICAL LIMIT slipped to third with a gross of $1.61 million, growing its German cume to $5.95 million. At #4, BEDAZZLED bewitched another $1.25 million, elevating its German cume to $5.74 million. In its second week in Germany, BAGGER VANCE placed fifth, with a gross of $553,808, swinging its total to $1.24 million. In a weak premiere in eighth, HIGHLANDER: ENDGAME captured only $374,552. In ninth, CROUCHING TIGER added $371,486 to its German cume of $2.73 million. In Mexico, CAST AWAY fell to second behind the debut of live-action comedy WHAT WOMEN WANT, grossing $1.51 million, thus advancing its cume to $3.83 million. In third, VERTICAL LIMIT landed another $1.2 million, launching its Mexican cume to $8.58 million. Debuting in fourth, BLESS THE CHILD possessed $990,551. CHICKEN RUN fell to sixth, with a ticket-take of $425,894, advancing its cume to $5.98 million. In ninth, BEDAZZLED snaked $116,215, elevating its Mexican cume to $7.21 million. Closing out the Mexican top ten, 102 DALMATIANS added $92,422 to its cume of $5.01 million. In Spain, VERTICAL LIMIT climbed to the top spot for the second straight week, grossing $1.67 million, thus escalating its cume to $3.31 million. CAST AWAY washed up in second, with a ticket-take of $1.13 million, pushing its Spanish cume to $6.99 million. At #4, 102 DALMATIANS collared $943,629 in its Spanish premiere. In seventh for its Spanish nod, TRAFFIC smuggled in $508,219. UNBREAKABLE fell to eighth, with a gross of $507,579, raising its Spanish total to $8.37 million. Making a lackluster debut in ninth, BAGGER VANCE collected $493,763. Rounding out the top ten, BLESS THE CHILD added $454,646 to its Spanish cume of $1.89 million. In Sweden, THE EMPEROR'S NEW GROOVE premiered at #2, with a ticket-take of $476,836. Sinking to sixth, CAST AWAY landed $174,276, pushing its Swedish cume to $2.08 million. At #7, BEDAZZLED bought souls to the tune of $168,524, advancing its Swedish cume to $370,484. VERTICAL LIMIT plummeted from third to eighth with a gross of $145,342, bringing its Swedish total to $818,838. In ninth, CROUCHING TIGER added $110,821 to its Swedish cume of $977,020. In Japan, French thriller, THE CRIMSON RIVERS, drifted in second with a ticket-take of $2.42 million, raising its cume to $5.99 million. In eighth, VERTICAL LIMIT rescued $940,171, climbing its Japanese total to $33.31 million. At #9, DINOSAUR stomped home with another $661,624, elevating its Japanese cume to $41.62 million. In France, 102 DALMATIANS was spotted in third, with a gross of $3.47 million, raising its cume to $6.54 million. CAST AWAY sailed into fifth, with a ticket-take of $1.07 million, bringing its French cume to $7.39 million. In the land whose capital gave it its name, RUGRATS IN PARIS could only muster a seventh place debut and a ticket-take of $806,920. Finishing off the French top ten, UNBREAKABLE added $348,561 to its cume of $17.36 million. In the U.K., TRAFFIC placed third, grossing $1.66 million, escalating its cume to $6.58 million. At #4, CAST AWAY fished in $1.61 million, growing its British total to $18.45 million. Premiering in fifth, THE ADVENTURES OF ROCKY & BULLWINKLE rounded up $1.2 million. In its U.K. debut, ALMOST FAMOUS rocked into sixth with a gross of $914,651. In seventh, CROUCHING TIGER wowed audiences to the tune of $864,120, lifting its U.K. cume to $7.89 million.
