Hannibal Stays Tough With More Traffic At Int. BO

HANNIBAL held strong at the international box office with debuts of TRAFFIC topping charts in Australia and Italy. In France, however, HANNIBAL fended off the premiere of TRAFFIC, taking the top slot with a gross of US$3.17 million and raising its cume to $9.4 million. In second, TRAFFIC smuggled in $2.48 million. VERTICAL LIMIT climbed into the sixth spot, grossing $807,368, thus lifting its French total to $5.15 million. In the U.K., HANNIBAL hatched another $2.52 million in first, elevating its cume to $26.1 million. At #6, THE EMPEROR'S NEW GROOVE danced in $1.14 million, bringing its U.K. cume to $10.44 million. CROUCHING TIGER, HIDDEN DRAGON was found in eighth with a ticket-take of $606,044, advancing its U.K. cume to $10.65 million. Closing out the U.K. top ten, TRAFFIC tacked on $426,665 to its British cume of $9.31 million. In Spain, HANNIBAL gobbled up $1.9 million, escalating its total to $8.31 million. In seventh, TRAFFIC smoked up another $428,663, raising its Spanish cume to $3.03 million. 102 DALMATIANS was spotted in eighth, grossing $352,483, thereby increasing its Spanish total to $3.77 million. At #9, CAST AWAY floated an additional $322,655, raising its Spanish cume to $9.5 million. Rounding out the Spanish top ten, VERTICAL LIMIT added $309,580 to its cume of $6.21 million. In Mexico, HANNIBAL took the top spot for a second week, grossing $1.65 million, thus elevating its cume to $4.37 million. In fourth, THIRTEEN DAYS debuted with a ticket-take of $730,280. At #7, CROUCHING TIGER tagged $254,251, raising its Mexican cume to $896,827. RED PLANET crash-landed in eighth, with a gross of $218,088, increasing its Mexican cume to $1.26 million. At #9, CAST AWAY fished in another $215,506, bringing its Mexican cume to $5.78 million. In Sweden, the premiere of TRAFFIC couldn't race over HANNIBAL, which took first, grossing $456,134, thus raising its two-week total to $2.13 million. At #2, TRAFFIC scored $381,552 and a per screen average of $15,262. THE EMPEROR'S NEW GROOVE popped into fifth, with a gross of $175,789, bringing its Swedish total to $1.8 million. Staying steady in eighth, CROUCHING TIGER captured another $81,564, lifting its Swedish total to $1.36 million. Closing out the Swedish top ten, CAST AWAY tacked $67,132 onto its $2.42 million total. In Hong Kong, HANNIBAL retained the top slot with a gross of $329,400, escalating its cume to $989,646. In fourth, BLESS THE CHILD possessed $162,349 in its Hong Kong debut. Finishing off the top ten, CAST AWAY added another $21,419 to its eight-week Hong Kong cume of $3.07 million. In Germany, HANNIBAL slipped to third, grossing $1.56 million, thus lifting its cume to $16.75 million. In its premiere in fifth, DIGIMON ADVENTURE drummed up $1.2 million. At #7, 102 DALMATIANS collared $644,415, raising its German total to $8.07 million. CAST AWAY floated into eighth with a ticket-take of $579,261, bringing its German cume to $28.94 million. At #9, RED PLANET picked up an additional $472,287, advancing its two-week German total to $1.27 million. Rounding out the German top ten, LITTLE NICKY added $342,183 to its $1.67 million total. In Canada, at #3, HANNIBAL's ticket-take dropped 28%, taking home $603,933, thus growing its cume to $8.82 million. In fourth, SEE SPOT RUN improved its gross by 11%, chalking up $603,646, thereby raising its two-week Canadian total to $1.15 million. TRAFFIC took the eighth position with a gross of $491,939, increasing its Canadian cume to $8.4 million. At #9, CROUCHING TIGER grabbed $417,707, advancing its Canadian total to $7.53 million. Finishing off the top ten, RECESS: SCHOOL'S OUT tacked $368,709 onto its Canadian cume of $1.46 million. In its Australian premiere, TRAFFIC lit it up to the tune of $2.17 million in first place. At #4, ALMOST FAMOUS rocked in an additional $500,426, growing its Australian total to $2.33 million. In sixth, HANNIBAL hacked in another $438,648, pushing its five-week Australian total to $6.2 million. CROUCHING TIGER sprung up in seventh with a ticket-take of $314,203, increasing its total Down Under to $4.56 million. In ninth, CAST AWAY added $231,406 to its $11.51 million Australian cume. In Italy, TRAFFIC claimed the #1 slot with a premiere ticket-take of $1.45 million. At #9 in Italy, VERTICAL LIMIT landed an additional $330,714, lifting its total to $2.33 million. In Japan, CAST AWAY washed into the top spot for a second straight week, grossing $5.04 million, thus escalating its cume to $12.81 million. In second, TOEI ANIME FAIR debuted with a ticket-take of $4.53 million. In its fourth week in Japan, UNBREAKABLE secured the third spot with a ticket-take of $2.56 million, pushing its Japanese total to $19.81 million. THE CRIMSON RIVERS flowed into sixth, grossing $738,252, thereby raising its Japanese cume to $10.88 million. Closing out the Japanese top ten, THE LEGEND OF BAGGER VANCE scrounged up only $487,693 in its lackluster debut. In South Africa, CAST AWAY retained the second slot with a gross of $117,074, lifting its total to $337,619.
