Hannah Montana Wins the Best of Both Worlds, and the Box Office

HANNAH MONTANA THE MOVIE placed first in its debut weekend, earning $32.3 million for Disney (vfx from CIS Hollywood).

Universal's FAST & FURIOUS fell more than 61 percent in its second weekend, but still came in second with $27.2M (vfx by Double Negative and Rhythm & Hues). Audiences have paid $116.5M so far to watch the reunited cast and hot cars.

DreamWorks Animation/Paramount's MONSTERS VS. ALIENS came in third in its third weekend in release with $21.8M and still playing at more than 4,100 theaters. It has a three week gross of $140.2M.

Seth Rogen mall cop comedy OBSERVE AND REPORT (Warner Bros.) placed fourth in its opening weekend with $11.02M.

Nicolas Cage's thriller KNOWING dropped one place to fifth with $6.4M and in four weeks has earned $67.8M (Summit Ent., vfx from Animal Logic, BUF and Postmodern).

Bromantic comedy I LOVE YOU, MAN (Paramount/DreamWorks) also dropped one place for sixth in its fourth week out with $6.3M and $58.9M total.

In seventh place was THE HAUNTING IN CONNECTICUT from Lionsgate with $5.9M, dropping from third place last week. In three weeks in release it has earned $46.5M.

Fox's DRAGONBALL EVOLUTION adaptation opened low in eighth place with just $4.8M. Key vfx for the film, originally a manga series, was done by CafeFX, Frantic Films and Hybride Technologies.

Ninth place went to ADVENTURELAND (Miramax) with $3.35M and a two-week cume of $11.4M.

And tenth place went to Universal's romantic caper DUPLICITY (vfx from Brainstorm Digital) with $2.996M, which has a four-week gross of $36.8M.

In animated features, Focus Features' CORALINE (animation from LAIKA) made another $176,876 and in 10 weeks has earned $74.5M. FLY ME TO THE MOON (Summit Ent.) earned $26,071 in its 35th week out, for a total gross of $13.5M. Sony Pictures Classic's WALTZ WITH BASHIR did $6,261 for a 16-week total of $2.26M.
