Despite a Sunday estimate of $14.2 million, Touchstone Pictures’ GNOMEO AND JULIET ended up with only $13.4 million, placing second. With animation from Starz Animation, the Shakespeare-inspired animated comedy has earned $74.3 million.
Last week’s #1, UNKNOWN, slipped to third, taking in another $12.4 million. With vfx from 4DMax and Lip Sync Post, the Liam Neeson actioner has a cume of $42.8 million.
Columbia’s JUST GO WITH IT held strong in fourth, making an additional $11.1 million. The Adam Sandler/Jennifer Aniston comedy has made $79.4 million thus far.
Buena Vista’s I AM NUMBER FOUR dropped from second to fifth in its second week. With vfx from Entity FX, Hammerhead Productions, Image Engineering, Industrial Light & Magic, Kerner Optical, Pixel Playground, Shade VFX, The Third Floor and XYZ-RGB, the teen sci-fi romance added $11 million to its $37.7 million cume.
Paramount’s JUSTIN BIEBER: NEVER SAY NEVER stayed put in sixth, bringing in $9.2 million and lifting its cume to $62.8 million.
Oscar-winner THE KING’S SPEECH also stayed put in seventh with $7.62 million. With vfx from LOOK! Effects, Molinare Studio and Pixion, the Best Picture winner has a cume of $114.5 million.
Fox’s BIG MOMMAS: LIKE FATHER, LIKE SON stopped in eighth with $7.55 million. With vfx from Spectral Motion, the Martin Lawrence in drag/fat suit comedy has a cume of $28.6 million.
In a very weak debut, Summit’s DRIVE ANGRY crashed into ninth with $5.13 million. The Nicolas Cage actioner has vfx from CEG Media and Creative Dataworks.
Screen Gem’s horror flick THE ROOMMATE closed out the top ten with $2.05 million, making its cume $35.9 million.
