Jonathan Lethem's cult sci-fi novel GUN, WITH OCCASIONAL MUSIC is back in the movie adaptation spotlight, according to THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER. Since its release in 1994, the book has been making the development rounds in Hollywood. Now producers Gabe and Alan Polsky want to give it a go themselves.

The story mixes a film noir detective story with futuristic sci-fi. Set in Oakland and San Francisco, a private eye investigates the murder of an influential urologist. The novel includes hyper-intelligent children called baby-heads, animal evolution, sexual nerve sharing, karma-filled debt cards, and a kangaroo mobster.

Previously director Alan J. Pakula had been circling the project with Hampton Fancher adapting a script.
