Grrr Growls to Top Midsummer Awards

The 12th Midsummer Awards were recently handed out, celebrating London's advertising industry. Founded in 1992 by Paul Cover and Terry Howard with the aim of promoting excellence in creative work in the specific area of film and television, and judged solely by working creatives, the Midsummer Awards are an opportunity for the top creative names in the industry to gather and celebrate the joys of the English summer.

In the Animation Category, Nexus Prods. Smith & Foulkes won the Gold award for its Honda spot, GRRR. The agency for the ad was Wieden & Kennedy. The spot also took home the Grand Prix for Most Outstanding Commercial.

Nexus and Smith & Foulkes also took home the Silver prize for The Observer ABBA TO ZAPPA, which was done for ad agency, Mother. The bronze prize went to Renault Espace HECTORS LIFE, produced by Outsider/Bandits and ad agency Publicis Corseil, directed by Dom & Nic and animated and post produced by Framestore CFC. Commendations in the category were given to Studio AKA, BBC and agency DFGW for CBEEBIES JACK & DAISY and D.E.J. and DFGW for UKTV Style Indents.

In addition, Framestore CFC won the Best Post Production award in recognition of the company's work on TREE, the Johnnie Walker spot, created by BBH and directed by Daniel Kleinman. The companys Playstation 2 campaign also directed by Kleinman and posted was also recognized, winning both Gold and Silver awards in its Product category. Another Kleinman / Framestore CFC collaboration, DOORSTEP CHALLENGE for John Smiths, won a Bronze award in its product category.
