Matt Groening, creator of THE SIMPSONS, at last gives voice to an animated version of himself on the "My Big Fat Greek Wedding SIMPSONS episode airing April 18 at 8:00 pm on FOX. Groening has often shown up as an image, but this is his first speaking role.
In the episode, Principal Skinner gets cold feet before his pending nuptials so his fiancée, Edna Krabappel, calls off the wedding. Skinner asks Homer for help while Marge tells Edna to keep looking.
Edna rebounds into the arms of Comic Book Guy, who takes her to a sci-fi convention. They run into Groening (guest-starring as himself) who is signing autographs for his fans at the convention. It just so happens that Groening has appeared as framed photo on the wall of Comic Book Guy's store in previous episodes. The part and portrayal is no stretch for Groening, who frequents the ComicCon Intl convention every year to sign autographs for fans and add to his sizeable comic collection in real life.
