Grinch Grabs Top Spot For Third Week

Without any major new releases in U.S. theaters, HOW THE GRINCH STOLE CHRISTMAS grabbed the top spot once again. The cartoon redux, with primary visual effects by Digital Domain, grossed another US$27.1 million, climbing its total take at U.S. box offices to a whopping $172 million. The rest of the top five also remained the same, with UNBREAKABLE collecting $14.44 million in second. The superhero drama, with primary visual effects by The Secret Lab and TSL, has a cume of $66.35 million thus far. 102 DALMATIANS was spotted in third, with a gross of $8.3 million. The puppy poaching pic, with primary visual effects by The Secret Lab, has rounded up $36.6 million to date. In fourth, RUGRATS IN PARIS waddled in with $6.51 million. The French free-for-all, with animation by Klasky Csupo, has accumulated $55.57 million in its three weeks in theaters. CHARLIE'S ANGELS repeated its performance in fifth, grossing $5.02 million. The cleavage caper, with primary visual effects by Flash Film Works, has a cume of $115.4 million. Switching places with the live-action Navy flick, MEN OF HONOR, 6TH DAY sunk a spot to finish eighth, grossing $4.01 million. The identity switcheroo, with primary visual effects by Rhythm & Hues and Cinesite, has managed to secure only $30.56 million. Closing the top ten for the second straight weekend, LITTLE NICKY possessed another $2.22 million. The Devil's daddy's boy, with primary visual effects by VisionArt, Pixel Magic and Rhythm & Hues, has scared up $36.75 million so far. Actually moving back up a spot, THE LEGEND OF BAGGER VANCE place in 12th, with a gross of $1.01 million. The Hindu-inspired golf saga, with primary visual effects by PDI, has swung in $29.73 million. Holding steady in 14th place, RED PLANET set down another $748,561. The renegade robot pic, with primary visual effects by Cinesite, Digital Domain, Rhythm & Hues and In Post, has only scraped together $16.69 million since its release 24-days ago. At #18, CYBERWORLD 3D corralled $264,003. The Imax animated spectacle has collected $3.22 million to date. Holding on at #19, BEDAZZLED seduced an additional $240,922. The Satan send-up, with primary visual effects by Rhythm & Hues, has sinned to the tune of $36.73 million. Other animated and special effects laden films finishing in the top fifty were: WHAT LIES BENEATH at #23, with a gross of $153,052 and a cume of $155 million; ALMOST FAMOUS at #24, with a gross of $138,734 and a cume of $31.72 million; GODZILLA 2000 at #26, with a gross of $101,831 and a cume of $10 million; THE CELL at #28, with a gross of $95,413 and a cume of $61.19 million; NUTTY PROFESSOR II: THE KLUMPS at #37, with a gross of $55,900 and a cume of $123.2 million; THE PERFECT STORM at #46, with a gross of $33,308 and a cume of $182.6 million; THE LITTLE VAMPIRE at #49, with a gross of $28,578 and a cume of $13.56 million; and THE EXORCIST at #50, with a gross of $25,850 and a cume of $39.48 million.
