Golden Globe Noms Go Cold & To Angels & Fishes

The 61st annual Golden Globe nominations were announced by the Hollywood Foreign Press on December 18, 2003. Leading the pack in film nods was COLD MOUNTAIN with eight. For TV, HBO received 20 nods, riding the success of ANGELS IN AMERICA and SEX AND THE CITY. The Best Picture Drama category saw a lot of spectacle given recognition with nominations going to MOUNTAIN, THE LORD OF THE RINGS: THE RETURN OF THE KING, MASTER AND COMMANDER: THE FAR SIDE OF THE WORLD and SEABISCUIT along with the moody thriller MYSTIC RIVER.

As for the Best Picture - Musical or Comedy category, FINDING NEMO will be up against live-action flicks BEND IT LIKE BECKHAM, BIG FISH, LOST IN TRANSLATION and LOVE ACTUALLY. Up for Best Director are Peter Jackson for THE LORD OF THE RINGS: THE RETURN OF THE KING, Anthony Minghella, for COLD MOUNTAIN and Peter Weir for MASTER AND COMMANDER as well as Sofia Coppola (LOST IN TRANSLATION) and Clint Eastwood (MYSTIC RIVER).

Nominees in the Television Series Drama category included 24, CSI: CRIME SCENE INVESTIGATION, NIP/TUCK, SIX FEET UNDER and THE WEST WING. Pulling in nods for Best Mini-Series or Motion Picture Made For Television were ANGELS IN AMERICA, MY HOUSE IN UMBRIA, NORMAL, SOLDIER'S GIRL and TENNESSEE WILLIAMS' THE ROMAN SPRING OF MRS. STONE.
