GOBELINS, School of Visual Communication and CITIA, City of Moving Images are launching the only character animation course of its kind in France.

For the 2010 academic year, the GOBELINS School of Visual Communication and CITIA, City of Moving Images are launching a unique and much awaited training course in France: COMPUTER GRAPHICS ANIMATOR. Approved by the Imaginove Cluster, the programme is backed by the Haute-Savoie Chamber of Commerce and Industry. On the strength of its experience and international reputation in the field of character animation, GOBELINS has designed an advanced 9-month training programme for 3D character animation, aimed at students or professionals with an undergraduate degree in the field of computer graphics, animation, 3D imaging and/or 2 years of professional experience in these fields. The programme consists of practical exercises to develop command of movement, directing and acting, lessons taught by experts from the sector, an individual project and a dissertation, as well as a 3-month work placement to be carried out abroad.

3D Character Animator, 3D Animation Supervisor, 3D Animation Director, 3D Character Designer are just some of the professions available in the fields of animation, video games, special effects or advertising.

The course opens in September 2010. Candidates must pass a written exam, technical tests and an oral interview, with a pre-selection based on a written application and a technical making-of.

Courses will take place in Annecy. Registrations starts on January 6th (go to www.gobelins.fr for details). GOBELINS, School of Visual Communication (www.gobelins.fr) is one of the 12 schools of the Paris Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCIP). GOBELINS offers specialised courses for professions in the field of visual communication, with 700 students and apprentices in initial education programmes and nearly 1,400 vocational trainees in multimedia, animation, photography, graphic design, printing, video and sound. 86 % of graduates from the school find jobs within 6 months of obtaining their degrees.

CITIA, City of Moving Images (www.citia.org) is a public institution for cultural cooperation backed by the Annecy Greater Urban Area, the Haute-Savoie Departmental Council, the Rhône-Alpes Region and the State. Its mission is to act as a resource and competence centre for moving images/pictures, operating in three complementary areas: culture, economics and training-research.
