Gnomon Workshop Releases Kato DVDs

The Gnomon Workshop, in conjunction with Design Studio Press, has introduced three new instructional DVDs from artist Bob Kato, who shows the artist how to draw and paint the adult male head.

An accomplished artist and instructor, Kato has been teaching drawing and painting classes at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California, since 1990. As founder of the Drawing Club drawing workshop in Los Angeles, Kato has developed a space for beginners and professionals to study the costumed model. He has also held workshops at Walt Disney Feature Animation, Walt Disney Consumer Products, Walt Disney Online and Universal Studios Creative. His illustrations have been featured in National Lampoon and Spy Magazine, and are in permanent exhibits at The Smithsonian Institute's National Zoo and The Florida Aquarium.

* DRAWING THE ADULT MALE HEAD In this first DVD, Kato demonstrates step-by-step how to draw the human head using basic drawing materials. He shows how to develop a drawing in stages, and through this process discusses gesture, form, depth, perspective, proportion as well as light and shadow. He also reveals how he invents characters using a basic set of guidelines.* PAINTING THE ADULT MALE HEAD: MONOCHROMATICIn this second DVD, Kato demonstrates with gouache step-by-step how to paint the human head using value. He shows how to develop a painting in stages, and through this process discusses gesture, form, depth, perspective, proportion as well as light and shadow. In this lecture, Kato works from life and invents characters using a basic set of guidelines and strategies. * PAINTING THE ADULT MALE HEAD: COLOR In this third DVD, Kato demonstrates with gouache step-by-step how to paint the human head in color. He shows how to develop a color painting in stages, and through this process discusses gesture, form, depth, perspective, proportion as well as light and shadow. In this lecture, Kato works from life and invents characters using a basic set of guidelines and strategies.
