Gnomon Workshop Offers Six New Digital Training DVDs

The Gnomon Workshop announced six new digital titles. The latest batch includes ZBrush, V-Ray, MEL and a title that takes you from a concept design illustration to a 3D render. This series of releases brings new titles from Chris Nichols and legendary artist Meats Meier, and introduces effects artists Kevin Mannens and Mark Lefitz to The Gnomon Workshop.

These titles further enhance the Gnomon Workshop library, says Gnomon Workshop producer Eric Hanson. New offerings include robust technical titles on creative MEL scripting and interior lighting using V-Ray, as well as how to develop concept artwork into final 3D production models. The Gnomon Workshop continues to expand its catalogue, producing tools to help artists become more efficient and skilled in the visual effects field.

Lefitz shows you how to transform a 2D image into a 3D environment. In the process, he covers numerous facets of Maya, culminating by compositing the piece in Shake. Lefitz, currently a lighting and compositing technical director at Disney Feature Animation, left a career in architecture to work on such projects as THE RUGRATS MOVIE, FUTURAMA, BICENTENNIAL MAN, MISSION TO MARS and numerous other projects during his decade-long career in the entertainment industry.

Technical director Mannens joins the Gnomon Workshop with a suite of titles covering Alias MEL. This thorough collection presents the fundamentals, MEL for Character Animators and MEL for effects artists. Mannens has trained clients at numerous effects companies, including Moving Picture Co., Double Negative-CFC, Cinesite and others. He is currently a td at Oriental Post in Thailand.

Meier returns with a DVD that reveals the artists working process via the creation of his ARM UPGRADE illustration. Meier, a resident artist at the Gnomon Workshop, maintains a successful career as an independent artist, recently adorning the packaging of both ZBrush and Alias Maya 7 packaging, in addition to numerous book, magazine and websites.

Nichols, senior lighting td at Sony Pictures Imageworks, presents his second Gnomon Workshop title on Global Illumination with V-Ray. He has credits on such movies as THE DAY AFTER TOMORROW, I, ROBOT and STEALTH.

Since 2000, The Gnomon Workshop (www.thegnomonworkshop.com) has provided artists and students with the educational resources they need to succeed as artists in the entertainment industries. Whether they're interested in design, modeling, effects, animation, storytelling or matte painting, these DVDs provide a valuable educational resource for students around the world. The Gnomon Workshop is the sister company of The Gnomon School of Visual Effects, which provides professional-caliber visual effects instruction to students and professionals in Los Angeles, California.
