Gnomon Online Expands

Gnomon Online, the web-based division of Gnomon School of Visual Effects, has announced a new and expanded version of its previously released online training portal. Several new features have been added to Gnomon Online to extend it's usability, enhance the user's personal experience and take online training to a whole new level for students.

"Gnomon Online will now offer video-based critiques where instructors will record their critiques of student's work in the same fashion as their pre-recorded lectures," explains Gnomon Online producer and instructor, Eric Miller. "This will allow our students a much more personal experience when instructors critique their work. Our students can watch, as their instructor looks over their homework with a mouse, hearing back personally from industry gurus instead of being sent an email. We're very excited about this new feature and feel it really sets us apart from any of our competitors offering online training."

In addition to the new video-based critiques, Gnomon Online lectures will now be pre-recorded and delivered at 3/4 HD (960x540) and range between two-three hours of lecture per week. Homework assignments are assigned each week, unless work towards a final project has been assigned. Critiques are then performed by the instructor and delivered in a number of formats, including video based.

"I couldn't be more pleased with the way Gnomon Online is evolving," says Darrin Krumweide, associate director at Gnomon School of Visual Effects. "As we continue to migrate more and more of our courses to an online format, eventually when enough courses come live, we can provide a track based program that will allow students to choose a modeling track or a lighting track. Our main goal is to bring the courses we currently teach here at the Gnomon School to students around the world."

To add to the personal experience of taking online courses, Gnomon Online has added a blog feature for each individual class that is password protected, so students can get instant feedback from their fellow classmates taking the same online course. Gnomon Online can also offer a volume discount for companies that want to register five or more students for an online class. "If a company is looking to train artists, and are looking at a specific class, we can work with them on pricing," says Darrin Krumweide.
