GKIDS Unveils New Trailer for ‘Song of the Sea’

The second feature from Oscar-nominated director Tomm Moore, ‘Song of the Sea’ opens in New York and Toronto on December 19.

North American animation distributor GKIDS has just released a new trailer for Song of the Sea, the new feature from Ireland’s Cartoon Saloon.

Song of the Sea is the second feature from Tomm Moore, the Academy Award-nominated director of The Secret of Kells. It tells the story of Ben and his little sister Saoirse -- the last Seal-child -- who embark on a fantastic journey across a fading world of ancient legend and magic in an attempt to return to their home by the sea. The film takes inspiration from the mythological Selkies of Irish folklore, who live as seals in the sea but become humans on land.

Featuring the voices of Brendan Gleeson, Fionnula Flanagan, David Rawle, Lisa Hannigan, Pat Shortt and Jon Kenny, the film premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in September, and will open at the IFC Theater in New York and the TIFF Bell Lightbox Theater in Toronto on December 19, before expanding to Los Angeles and other major markets in the holiday time period.
