Delfino Ent. is teaming with George Lopez to produce EDDIE & THE SQUID, an animated half-hour comedy about two young Latino brothers, VARIETY reports. Lopez will serve as exec producer. Movie- and TV-distribution company Delfino has set up an animation arm to produce the pilot, which is budgeted just under $1 million.
Don Ashley, head of Delfino; Rick Nyholm, exec producer of ABC's THE GEORGE LOPEZ SHOW; and Brett Merhar, who created the characters, developed the show. The voice cast will include Efren Ramirez (NAPOLEON DYNAMITE) and Carlos Alazraqui (RENO 911).
Delfino will pitch the pilot to FOX with the hope to join its Sunday-primetime lineup alongside THE SIMPSONS and FAMILY GUY.
Ashley said Delfino has developed new technology in hand-drawn animation that allows a half-hour episode to be produced in eight weeks. Delfino plans to produce four additional animated pilots in the next year.
