Gene Deitch to Receive Winsor McCay Award at Annies

The board of directors of ASIFA-Hollywood has selected Gene Deitch to be one of the recipients of its prestigious Winsor McCay Award. Each year a Winsor McCay Award is awarded to a maximum of three individuals in recognition of lifetime or career contributions to the art of animation in producing, directing, animating, design, writing, voice acting, sound and sound effects, technical work, music, professional teaching or for other endeavors which exhibit outstanding contributions to excellence in animation.

The presentation of the award will be made on Feb. 7, 2004 at the Alex Theatre in Glendale California. In conjunction with the award, animation historian Jerry Beck will be hosting a retrospective of Deitchs work at Grauman's Egyptian Theatre. The program will include BUILDING FRIENDS FOR BUSINESS, as well as 35mm prints of SCOPE TERRYTOONS, Tom Terrific, MUNRO and other Rembrandt and Weston Woods productions. The screening will also include a Q&A with Deitch and a book signing.
