Gaumont Teams with TV Tokyo for 'Calimero' Co-Prod

Broadcaster brings Calimero back to Japan in partnership with Kodansha.

Annecy, France – Gaumont Animation, one of Europe’s leading producers and distributors of children’s entertainment, together with Calidra and Italy’s Studio Campedelli, announced that its new animated CGI series Calimero (104 x 11’), will be co-produced by TV TOKYO in Japan, where the character has enjoyed a great popularity for many years. The Japanese broadcast of the new series is scheduled for 2014. As part of the co-production agreement, TV TOKYO will be handling distribution and licensing in Japan and Asia.

Calimero, a loveable little black chicken initially created in 1963 by Nino Pagot, Toni Pagot and Ignazio Colnaghi, became an international hit with 290 episodes of animation aired in over 80 countries.

Celebrating its 50th Anniversary this year, Gaumont Animation’s all-new animated CGI series will bring this iconic character to an entire new audience of children. Gaumont Animation distributes the program and manages the brand internationally on behalf of Calidra, the rights owner. Broadcasters already on board are France’s TF1, Italy’s RAI Fiction, Disney Junior, Tele Quebec and TSR in Switzerland.
