Gaumont Grows 'Calimero' Brand in Italy

Gaumont Animation announces Giochi Preziosi has signed a Master Toy license to develop figurines, accessories & play sets based on Calimero, which just made a CG comeback on France’s TFOU and debuts on Italy’s RAI March 25.

Gaumont Animation, together with co-production partners Studio Campedelli, TV Tokyo, Kodansha and Calidra, confirms the record-breaking launch on France’s TFOU of the brand new animated Calimero series (104 x 11’) and, Studio Campedelli together with RAI announced the show’s premiere on Italy’s Rai Due Tuesday March 25th, for a daily 7.35am broadcast of the first 26 episodes. Calimero is also scheduled to launch on Rai Yoyo later this year.

Meanwhile, Giochi Preziosi, the famous Italian-based company, has signed a Master Toy license to develop figurines, accessories & play sets for Europe. Other multi-territory toy partners brought by Gaumont Animation include IMC Toys, Simba-Dickie’s Nicotoy and Androni Giocattoli.

In Italy, key licensees include Lisciani Giochi for games, Mondadori and Play Press for publishing, Apunis, C3V, MLP and Oysho for apparel, Accademia for back-to-school, Celmax for sanitary and bath products, Ferrarini, Iniziative Group, San Carlo, Toncar for promotions,  World Cart for paper products, Warm Up Industry for live appearances, Wal-Cor for Easter eggs,  Zippo for collectible lighters.

Gaumont Animation will attend the Bologna Licensing Trade Fair this week with Team Entertainment, its Italian agent for Calimero.

Property of Calidra BV, Calimero was created in 1963 by Nino Pagot, Toni Pagot and Ignazio Colnaghi and became an international hit with 290 episodes of animation aired in over 80 countries.  In addition to TF1, the new CGI series is set to air on Italy’s RAI, Germany’s Super RTL, Disney Junior, TV Tokyo, Tele Quebec and RTS in Switzerland.
