g-NET Brings Nerdy Game Warriors to MTV

g-NET media has signed a deal with MTV to create an animated pilot using characters created for videogames, reports VARIETY. The story will contrast the nerdy real lives and game lives of videogame warriors. g-NET has a deal in place with a undisclosed videogame publisher.

In addition, g-NET is pitching two additional programs to studios. BASEMENTS would take a MYSTERY SCIENCE 3000 approach to gaming, where animated characters make humorous comments on games as they play. The second is called FACE OFF, which pits top gamers against each other in an AMERICAN GLADIATORS-style competition.

g-Net was original formed in 2001 to be a competitor to G4 as a network dedicated to games, but later which to producing game-related content. The company has already launched several successful strategy guides on DVD. Investors include Ben Affleck, Dick Clark Prods. vice chairman/former Viacom and King World exec Jules Haimovitz and former ESPN head Roger Werner.
