Quebec, Canada - May 31, 2011 - Frima Studio, Canada's leading independent game developer, held a press conference today to announce the launch of its new VFX division, Frima FX. Steve Couture, Frima’s CEO, also announced the acquisition of the VFX division of Studio Virtuel Concept (SVC), a top VFX production house based in Quebec.

Frima FX is already at work on their first major production, The Ice Age, a 3D IMAX film being produced by Giant Screen Films in association with The Field Museum. This multi-million dollar production will require the recruitment of 20 VFX experts and 13 months in development.

“The addition of top talent from SVC to our team at Frima has made the launch of Frima FX possible today,” remarked Steve Couture, CEO, Frima Studio. "We now have a full scale VFX production department giving us the capability to take on a wider range of digital entertainment projects, to bring actual and upcoming intellectual properties to the big screen and to strengthen our company’s position as a leading-edge multiscreen developer!”

The acquisition of SVC by Frima Studio has paved the way for Frima FX, a new division within Frima Studio that will focus on visual effects production for live action, animated film and television projects. SVC’s previous works include 3D IMAX films such as “Dinosaurs 3D: Giants of Patagonia” which was a box office success and was nominated for Visual Effects Society awards.

“SVC’s team is thrilled to join 275 video game development experts and to bring VFX to Frima’s multiplatform expertise. With the business capabilities and the structure of Frima, the new entity has all the key elements to successfully conquer the animation and VFX market,” mentioned Mario Couturier, new VP production at Frima FX.
