FrameCycler DI Selected by Young-Gu Art

Young-Gu Art is the latest vfx facility that has selected Iridas FrameCycler DI as its new review and approval system. The facility, based in Seoul, provides cutting-edge work for the Korean film industry, one of the largest in the world.

"We chose FrameCycler for its realtime playback and primary color correction capabilities," said Ki-Wook Shim, visual effects supervisor at Young-Gu. "We work with 2K 10-bit files so we needed an application that can handle that. Iridas has a great track-record in the industry and that made it an easy decision."

Young-Gu is using FrameCycler DI to review 2K scans and for playback of final VFX renders. "With the conform tools we can quickly assemble and edit the work of many different people," added Shim. "It's very helpful to be able to make color adjustments within our review and approval process. It definitely speeds up our workflow."

"Iridas is excited to be working with Young-Gu," said Patrick Palmer, Iridas coo. "The film industry is exploding in Korea and Young-Gu is a big part of that. We're delighted to be able to contribute."

Young-Gu is working on D-WAR, a sci-fi feature film directed by Hyung-Rae Shim. The movie is based on Korean folklore. In this story, investigators at the site of a modern day massacre find a giant reptilian scale bearing the characteristics of a deadly immoghi serpent of legend.

The film is schedule for release this winter, according to Brian Lee of Bitek Graphics, Iridas' reseller in Korea. "They are working in overdrive on a tremendous number of vfx shots with miniatures and CGI, Lee said.

Iridas (www.iridas.com) pioneered desktop film-resolution playback in 2001. Its FrameCycler products are now the industry standard for frame-based image review. In 2003 Iridas introduced the first non-destructive color correction application. Today, SpeedGrade and FrameCycler provide a complete, end-to-end pipeline for uncompressed content and color data. Iridas applications are used by most major animation and post-production houses, including Warner Bros. Feature Animation, Industrial Light & Magic, The Moving Picture Co., ReelFX, Lowry Digital (DTS) and many others. IRIDAS is an independent, privately held company headquartered in Munich, Germany.
