Former Fox Kids Network Pres Maureen Smith Joins TLC

Former Fox Family Channel and Fox Kids Network president Maureen Smith has joined TLC Entertainment as a partner in the network. She joins co-founders and partners George Taweel and Rob Loos. Among Smith's most immediate objectives are to increase the company's library of intellectual properties, oversee marketing and brand management for each, and to fully exploit its media assets across all applicable platforms including television, home video, video on demand, publishing and feature films. "TLC's strong and steady success over the past 15 years has been one of the best kept secrets in Hollywood," said Smith. "I'm thrilled to be involved in letting the cat out of the bag and working with them to take TLC Entertainment to the next levels of success and build a business model that's the envy of independent producers everywhere." Named one of the 100 Most Powerful Women in Entertainment by The Hollywood Reporter in December 2001, Smith is recognized as a key architect in building the Fox Family Channel into a powerful vehicle for reaching tweens in daytime with such animated series as BRACEFACE. As the former president of Fox Kids Network, Smith's leadership was influential in establishing Fox Kids as a destination for action and adventure with such series as DIGIMON: DIGITAL MONSTERS. She was also successful in maintaining the popularity of the POWER RANGERS franchise, both on television and in merchandising. During that time, she also oversaw the Fox Kids Club, with its 4.2 million members, and served as editor-in-chief of Fox Kids Magazine. Prior to leading both Fox Kids and FOX/ABC Family Channel, Ms. Smith served as executive vice president, Fox Family Channel and general manager, Fox Kids Network. She joined Fox Kids in 1996 as senior vice president, planning, scheduling and station relations.
