Foreign Box Office: 'Ice Age' No. 1

More than two weeks ahead of its July 13 North American debut, Blue Sky Studio’s “Ice Age: Continental Drift” brought in $78 million this weekend, placing the fourth title in the franchise firmly in the top spot at the foreign box office.

More than two weeks ahead of its July 13 North American debut, Blue Sky Studio’s Ice Age: Continental Drift brought in $78 million this weekend, placing the fourth title in the franchise firmly in the top spot at the foreign box office. The animation sequel opened in 35 markets, taking the number-one spot in each one and setting debut records in Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, Colombia, Peru, Central America and in Chile. In France, the film was the biggest opening of the year, generating $11.8 million.

At number two, Sony’s The Amazing Spider-Man brought in $50.2 million. The sequel -- the fourth installment in the blockbuster series, which has earned $2.5 billion to date -- premieres in the U.S. this week.

DreamWorks Animation’s Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted came in third, bringing in $16.2 million in its fourth weekend overseas for a foreign total of $244.2 million.

Universal’s Snow White and the Huntsman, the weekend’s number four overseas title, earned $14.5 million for a total of $189 million.

At number five, Pixar’s Brave brought in $6.7 million in its second weekend overseas, raising its foreign box office total to $26.8 million.

Sony’s Men In Black III drew $6.4 million over the weekend, with the film accumulating $429.8 million since it opened overseas on May 23. MIB3 has now earned $599.4 million worldwide to become the highest-grossing title in the Sony franchise.

Fox’s Prometheus from director Ridley Scott grossed $6.2 million over the weekend for an overseas gross of $166.5 million. 

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, also from Fox, brought in $5 million in its second overseas round for a total of $17.5 million.

Warner Bros.’ Dark Shadows drew $4.2 million. Director Tim Burton’s period fantasy starring Johnny Depp has accumulated $151.6 million overseas to date.
