Flightplan Takes Off; Corpse Bride Rises Higher

With a takeoff of $24.6M, Buena Vistas FLIGHTPLAN, the Jodi Foster airplane thriller (with vfx from Lola Visual Effects and Peerless Camera Co.), withstood TIM BURTONS CORPSE BRIDE for the weekend ended Sept. 25, 2005. However, Warner Bros. should be pleased with the $19.1M tallied by the stop-motion feature as it goes wide throughout North America. CORPSE BRIDE (with vfx by MPC) now has $19.65M. Coming in third place with $9.6M was DreamWorks romantic fantasy, JUST LIKE HEAVEN (with vfx by Big Red Pixel), which now totals $29.8M. Debuting in the fourth spot was Fox Searchlights ROLL BOUNCE, which collected $7.5M. Following in fifth was Screen Gems THE EXORCISM OF EMILY ROSE (with vfx from Captive Audience Prods.), which scared up another $7.4M for a cume of $62.2M. The sixth spot went to Lions Gates LORD OF WAR (with vfx by Elemental Effects and LE.S.T.), which gathered $5M for a cume of $17.3M. Slipping to seventh place was Universals THE 40-YEAR-OLD VIRGIN, which brought home another $4.3M for a whopping cume of $96.9M. Settling for eighth place was Focus Features indie thriller, THE CONSTANT GARDENER (with vfx from Framestore CFC), which nurtured $2.3M for a total of $27.6M. Foxs TRANSPORTER 2 (with vfx by Big Red Pixel) came in ninth place with $2.2M and $39.9M. Tenth place belonged to Rogue Pictures CRY WOLF, which picked up $2.1M and a cume of $7.4M.
