Flash Gordon Tops SCI FI's Summer Schedule

SCI FI Channel is about to launch its biggest summer yet with a lineup featuring all-new originals and the return of some of its most popular shows. Summer introduces viewers to a contemporary re-imagined take on FLASH GORDON, plus the return of last years record-breaking dramedy EUREKA, a second season of the competition series, WHO WANTS TO BE A SUPERHERO?, with Stan Lee and season 3 of DR. WHO.

FLASH GORDON premieres Aug. 10, 2007. Placing a 21st century spin on a science fiction classic, SCI FIs contemporized version of FLASH GORDON follows the adventures of Flash (Eric Johnson) and his companions, Dale Arden and Dr. Hans Zarkov. Ordinary people thrust into extraordinary circumstances, they find themselves as Earths last line of defense against the forces of the merciless dictator Ming. Produced by Reunion Pictures, this modern day retelling of the classic comic strip franchise will begin production in May. RHI Ent. will be distributing the series internationally. Under an agreement with property owner King Features Syndicate, the new series is being produced by Matthew OConnor and Tom Rowe. RHIs Robert Halmi Sr. and Robert Halmi Jr. (TIN MAN, MITCH ALBOMS THE FIVE PEOPLE YOU MEET IN HEAVEN, THE TEN COMMANDMENTS), who previously produced SCI FIs popular miniseries event LEGEND OF EARTHSEA, will serve as exec producers.

DOCTOR WHO will return for its third season on July 6, 2007, at 9:00 pm. David Tennant reprises his role as the mysterious, time-traveling Doctor. American audiences will meet the Doctors brand-new sidekick, Martha Jones (Freema Agyeman), in the first official episode of the season, Smith and Jones. Season 3 will kick off on SCI FI with the 90-minute DOCTOR WHO CHRISTMAS SPECIAL: THE RUNAWAY BRIDE, guest-starring award-winning comedy actress Catherine Tate. DOCTOR WHO is produced by Phil Collinson. Exec producers are head of drama, BBC Wales, Julie Gardner and lead writer Russell T Davies.

EUREKA premieres July 10, 2007. The series about a secret U.S. town full of geniuses broke SCI FI Channel records with its two-hour premiere last summer, becoming the highest rated series telecast in SCI FI Channel history. Nestled in the Pacific Northwest, the town of Eureka is shrouded in secrecy. The picturesque hamlet is actually a community of geniuses assembled by the government to conduct top-secret research. What theyve unwittingly created is a place where anything imaginable can happen and does. The series stars Colin Ferguson, Salli Richardson-Whitfield, Joe Morton, Ed Quinn and Jordan Hinson.

WHO WANTS TO BE A SUPERHERO? Season 2 debuts July 25, 2007, at 9:00 pm. SCI FI Channel partners with legendary comicbook creator Stan Lees POW! Ent. Inc. and Bruce Nashs Nash Ent. (MEET MY FOLKS, FOR LOVE OR MONEY, WHO WANTS TO MARRY MY DAD?) to find the next great American superhero. Andy Scheer (HELLS KITCHEN) joins as exec producer this season.
