Not much is known about the Sony Pictures Animation project, other than that it was scripted by The Smurfs screenwriters Jay Scherick and David Ronn. The film revives the adventures of classic comic strip and animated hero Popeye the Sailor Man, the strongest, spinach-eating, seafaring sea dog ever to sail the Seven Seas in eye-popping 3D animation. Accompanied by his lovely lady Olive Oyl and challenged by his beefy nemesis Bluto, there’s no telling what kind of high seas shenanigans will unfold this time. Sony Pictures is expected to release the animated film sometime in 2016.

Aside from Popeye, Tartakovsky is also working on Hotel Transylvania 2 and a project he personally conceived, entitled Can You Imagine?
