First BBC Four World Cinema Award Goes to Triplets

On Jan. 25, 2004, BBC Four handled out its first World Cinema Award for best foreign-language film released in the past year in the U.K. The French animated film, TRIPLETS OF BELLEVILLE, directed by first-time feature director Sylvain Chomet, beat out all other contenders, including Hayao Miyazaki's SPIRITED AWAY, to take home the prize. The other nominees included live-action flicks: CITY OF GOD, TO BE AND TO HAVE, GOOD BYE, LENIN! and THE MAN WITHOUT A PAST.
