Finish have just completed post on an endearing new commercial for Ireland's EasiSingles cheese slices.
The commercial opens with a little boy returning from a day at school looking very sorry for himself, a little dark and stormy cloud hovering above his head pouring rain onto him. His loving mother soon gets some EasiSingles cheese on toast and pops it under the grill. As soon as he sees it this his mood lifts, the little cloud getting lighter until his first bite when the storm completely disperses and the sun comes out.
The 3D clouds were created using Maya Fluid Effects and supplied in multiple layers with each one graded, tracked and completed in Flame. The sign-off process had to happen once the shots had been composited as the look couldn't be achieved in rough form. Flame also generated the lightning and additional rain, using particles.
VFX Artist Steve Murgatroyd said, "It was very challenging to convincingly comp clouds into the interiors as they obviously don't occur there in reality. The little boy's acting was so good that there was no chance of the cloud upstaging him! Our job was to ensure the cloud didn't detract from the little boy's performance or take anything away from what was caught in camera."
