Zemeckis/Carrey Confirmed for A Christmas Carol

Following a leak earlier in the week by actor Bob Hoskins, it has been confirmed that Robert Zemeckis will indeed direct a performance capture version of Charles Dickens' A CHRISTMAS CAROL, starring Jim Carrey in a tour de force as Scrooge of all ages as well as the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Future.

A CHRISTMAS CAROL marks the first distribution pact between Zemeckis' ImageMovers Digital (which will produce in its new Northern California headquarters) and Walt Disney Pictures. No release date has been set and Hoskins has yet to be confirmed as Mr. Fezziwig, Scrooge's first employer.

Zemeckis wrote the screenplay specifically with Carrey in mind and offered him the role. The producers are ImageMovers partners Steve Starkey & Jack Rapke along with Zemeckis.

In addition to Zemeckis' signature performance capture technique of combining live action with CGI, A CHRISTMAS CAROL will be released in Disney Digital 3-D. Not surprisingly, the look will be very different from THE POLAR EXPRESS, MONSTER HOUSE and the upcoming BEOWULF (Paramount Pictures, opening Nov. 16).
