Robert Zemeckis is teaming with Walt Disney to remake the Beatles animated adventure, THE YELLOW SUBMARINE, reports VARIETY. The ROGER RABBIT filmmaker hopes to have the new 3-D performance-capture film ready for release around the 2012 Summer Olympics. ImageMovers will produce.

A Broadway musical and Cirque du Soleil production are also in the works based on the redux.

The original film was set in the magical underwater utopia called Pepperland where the music-hating Blue Meanies kidnap the land's protectors the Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band. In order to save the world, a Pepperland soldier is sent to Liverpool to get Paul, John, George and Ringo to come and help. George Dunning directed.
