Wolverine Slashes Way to Box Office Win

X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE (Fox, vfx by Cinesite, Hydraulx, Image Engine Design, Lola Visual Effects, Matte World Digital, Rising Sun Pictures, Soho VFX and Vital Distraction) won its opening weekend with $85.06M.

Warner Bros./New Line romantic comedy opener GHOSTS OF GIRLFRIENDS PAST (vfx by CIS Hollywood and Rhythm & Hues) placed second with $15.4M.

Last week's winner, OBSESSED (ScreenGems, vfx from Lola Visual Effects) dropped to third with $12.05M and a two-week cume of $46.9M.

Zac Efron-starring 17 AGAIN placed fourth with $6.36M and in three weeks has made $48.5M for Warner Bros.

Animated MONSTERS VS. ALIENS (Paramount/DreamWorks Animation) came in fifth place, up from sixth last week, with $5.8M and a six-week take of $182.41M.

THE SOLOIST (Paramount/DreamWorks was sixth with $5.65M and in two weeks has earned $18.2M.

Disney's EARTH documentary came in seventh place with $4.3M and a two-week gross of $22M.

In eighth place was HANNAH MONTANA THE MOVIE (Disney, vfx by CIS Hollywood) with $4.16M and $70.95M in four weeks.

FIGHTING battered its way to a ninth place finish with $4.01M for Rogue Pictures and a two-week cume of $17.3M.

Journalistic thriller STATE OF PLAY (Universal, vfx from Rhythm & Hues) fell to 10th place with $3.7M and $30.9M in three weeks.

In animated features, Roadside Attractions/Lionsgate's BATTLE FOR TERRA opened in 12th place with $1.082M.

CORALINE (Focus Features, animation by LAIKA) made another $54,485 and in 13 weeks has earned $75M. FLY ME TO THE MOON (Summit Ent.) is sticking around, earning another $21,866 and in 38 weeks has done $13.7M. Sony Pictures Classics' WALTZ WITH BASHIR made $675 and in 19 weeks has earned $2.28M.
