The 66th Venice Film Festival bows to 3D cinema and has announced the Persol 3D Award. The likely candidates include THE HOLE directed by Joe Dante, reports Variety.

Having seen America’s 3D releases earn big box office, Europe too is taking a keen interest in the emerging format.

Titles to be screened during the Orizzonti Live Action 3D program of the Venice Fest include: DAIMON and COCK-CROW both written and directed by Italian filmmakers David Zamagni and Nadia Ranocchi (a Persol 3D Award jury member).

International. Animation studios are embracing 3D storytelling, as well. Spain's Artefacto Studios will produce O APOSTOLO, a 3D stop-motion drama.
